The Friends will be having a Conservation Workday and will be installing some wooden steps and after lunch will be doing a Butterfly transect recording the species and number on the reserve (weather depending) .
Please wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty and safety boots with steel-toe caps if possible.
Bring food and drink if you are staying all day.

Please meet at gate on Beadnell Road near alleyway at time shown as the gate will be locked for security reasons.
The Friends of Garthorne Road Nature Reserve will be opening the site has we are holding a special event which local artists we be displaying and selling their paintings and wares. Please come along and support them as the profits will go to the reserve.
We will be also having the usual children’s Mini Beast hunt and also a tree trail will be available.
Bring a picnic and enjoy the nature listen to the birds and see the bees.

The work ranges from controlling non-native species to surveying and recording the many wildlife species. if you wish to join us please reserve a place.

However, the Friends of Garthorne Road Nature Reserve will still maintain certain precautions across various areas of operation and Lewisham Council Nature Conservation managers have been given the choice to incorporate elements of previous guidance in order to make ourselves and volunteers feel comfortable and safe whilst volunteering.
How to find us: Main gate is at North end of Beadnell Road next to the alleyway to Garthorne Road.
The next workday we will be making some paths safe for the Open Day and cutting back invasive species. After lunch either volunteer tree ID training or conduct butterfly transect recording the number of species on-site.Please bring lunch and drinking water and wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty and sturdy shoes (preferably steel toe cap boots).

There are two trophies to be won – Best Baker and Best Junior Baker. It would be helpful if you could email us in advance at garthorne.reserve@gmail.com letting us know if you plan to enter and in which category you want your cakes judged
• Entries can be either large cakes which we can slice on the day, or cupcake/muffin style cakes in individual cases or wrappers
• All cakes should be brought to the reserve between 13:30 and 14:00 on Saturday 18 September. Judging will take place at 14:00 and it will be followed immediately by a presentation ceremony at which the winners will receive their trophies
• We will be selling cakes during the rest during the open day (14:00-17:00) to raise money towards interpretation boards for the reserve
