Friends of Garthorne Road Nature Reserve Annual Bake-off 2024

The folks at Garthorne Road Nature Reserve are throwing open the gates one last time this year. Swing by and soak in the peaceful vibes, catch a glimpse of the wildlife, and witness the onset of autumn. Oh, and don’t miss the legendary cake Bake-off, generously sponsored this year by Bryan & Keegan Estate Agents in Crofton Park. You can even snag a slice of cake and help support the Friends group’s important work.

Garthorne Road Nature Reserve Open Day | Forest Hill Community Event

Saturday 18th May

2 – 5pm

The Friends of Garthorne Road Nature Reserve will be opening the site for the public to explore this hidden oasis of calm in Forest Hill. We will have an information stall and also the children’s can take part in a mini beast hunt and also have a self guided tree walk also plenty of butterflies and spring flowers. Bring a picnic and enjoy the wildlife.

Entrance at north end of Beadnell Road next to alleyway between Garthorne and Beadnell Road.

Experience the beautiful symphony of bird songs as the sun rises. This in person event is a perfect way to start your day surrounded by nature’s music. Don’t miss out on this unique opportunity to connect with the local wildlife in their natural habitat. Get ready to be serenaded by the dawn chorus at this hidden gem in the heart of the city!

Please be on-time as site is secured and locked. Also wear suitable clothing and footwear has path can become muddy

The Friends of Garthorne Road Nature Reserve are excited to open the site for the first time this year, just as the spring flowers begin to bloom and bees and butterflies emerge. Explore this hidden green sanctuary at your own pace with a self-guided tree walk, a children’s bug hunt, and an informative stall.

We will be also having the usual children’s Mini Beast hunt and also a tree trail will be available.

Friends of Garthorne Road Nature Reserve Conservation Workdays September – December 2023

About this event

The Friends will be having a Conservation Workday and will be installing some wooden steps and after lunch will be doing a Butterfly transect recording the species and number on the reserve (weather depending) .

Please wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty and safety boots with steel-toe caps if possible.

Bring food and drink if you are staying all day.

If you are interested please book a place it is a first come first serve basis in joining us.

Please meet at gate on Beadnell Road near alleyway at time shown as the gate will be locked for security reasons.

The Friends of Garthorne Road Nature Reserve will be opening the site has we are holding a special event which local artists we be displaying and selling their paintings and wares. Please come along and support them as the profits will go to the reserve.

We will be also having the usual children’s Mini Beast hunt and also a tree trail will be available.
